With the fall and winter seasons upon us, the darker days and cooler temperatures can have us longing for a little extra dose of self-care. A sauna session may help mitigate the chill felt due to dropping temperatures, but did you know that you can get the benefits of an infrared sauna without even breaking a sweat? Infrared is a long-established healing modality that you can apply to your self-care routine in various ways, reaping the associated health and wellness benefits.
Infrared, sometimes called infrared light, or infrared energy, is electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than those of visible light, that make it invisible to the human eye. Infrared technology is widely used in a variety of situations and products. Astronomers, military personnel, and medical professionals use it for imaging, and day-to-day in your home, infrared is used in electrical heaters, cookers, short-range communications like remote controls, optical fibers, security systems and saunas.
CELLIANT® is an infrared technology that is used in a variety of textile products and applications. It has been adopted in performance and leisure apparel, blankets, sheets and mattresses, shoes and socks, and more.
Infrared technology is used in saunas and textiles because infrared energy has been shown to be very beneficial. The benefits of infrared on the human body have been shown (outside of CELLIANT’s own studies) to include:
In CELLIANT’s studies*, we’ve shown that infrared energy produced specifically by CELLIANT:
Commercial and at-home infrared sauna options have begun to generate a lot of press in recent years. Manufacturers of these types of saunas depend upon infrared technology to create a sauna environment with health benefits, comfort, and consistency.
In textiles, CELLIANT is a way for people to enjoy wellness benefits and practice sustained self-care, simply by wearing or sleeping on CELLIANT-infused textile products. It is approximated that 22 hours of wearing, sleeping or sitting on CELLIANT, or otherwise interacting with it throughout the day is equivalent to a 20-30 minute infrared sauna session.
If you’ve ever been in a classic sauna, you know that heat is used to warm the air. After sitting in the warm air, your body begins to heat up from the outside to the inside. While this process does work, it’s slow and often inconsistent.
In contrast, an infrared sauna utilizes infrared light through a heater that emits radiant heat to encourage your body to heat itself. As your body absorbs the infrared heat, your thermal energy increases—much like what happens when you’re in the sun. However, with an infrared sauna, you get all the benefits and none of the downsides of exposing your skin to the unwanted and potentially harmful effects of the sun.
When you’re ready to try infrared technology in the form of an infrared sauna, you don’t have to look far. These days, many individuals and businesses are purchasing these types of saunas to have in their residences and offices. In fact, plenty of forward-looking salons, spas, wellness and fitness studios, office buildings, hotels, and residential apartments are investing in infrared saunas to differentiate themselves to employees, travelers, members, and residents.
For the best at-home infrared saunas, start by looking at Sunlighten. Sunlighten is the number one source for personalized infrared light therapy saunas. From portable solo saunas to custom-built commercial models, Sunlighten merges the science of infrared technology with appealing aesthetics in all the products the company offers.

Along with their leading infrared sauna technology, Sunlighten also offers a linen collection that’s infused with CELLIANT. The collection includes sauna cushion covers, body wraps, towels and hand towels. This means you get more infrared in the sauna and can continue getting the infrared wellness benefits that CELLIANT offers outside the sauna by wearing the wrap or towel.
