PERFORMANCE TEXTILES FAQ

WHAT IS PERFORMANCE FABRIC?

Performance textiles are any textile product or fabric that has a value add that makes that fabric or textile better at its core function. These are the types of fabrics we are perhaps most familiar with. Examples of these types of fabrics include: 
  • anti-wrinkle
  • stain-resistance
  • anti-microbial
  • water-proof
  • odor resistant
Many textile products, of course, contain multiple performance technologies in their fabrics and will be anti-wrinkle AND stain-resistant. One of the world-leaders in performance fabrics is our partner Crypton and our unique partnership creates fabrics that are both performance and bio-responsive. 

ARE ALL PERFORMANCE FABRICS THE SAME?

No, all performance fabrics are not the same. Each performance fabric has its own value add to the fabrics core functionality. For example, some performance fabrics are anti-wrinkle and some are anti-stain and some are both anti-stain and anti-wrinkle. Also, it should be considered what brand created the performance fabric, as different brands have different technologies and quality with regard to their performance. Our partner Crypton, for example, are world leaders in performance fabrics. 

IS MICROFIBER A PERFORMANCE FABRIC?

No, microfiber is not technically a performance fabric, though the construction of microfibers does make them stain-resistant and quite durable. CELLIANT®, since it is a blend of naturally-occurring minerals ground to powder as fine as 1 micron, could be used with a microfiber.

WHAT KIND OF FABRIC IS PERFORMANCE FABRIC?

There are a multitude of fabrics that can be used to create performance fabrics. Our partners at Crypton can create performance fabrics using cotton, linen, silk, wool, acrylic, rayon and polyester and much more.
