Functional Fabric Fair Spring 2023: Defining the Future of Performance

Dating back to 2008, PERFORMANCE DAYS is a European based functional fabric fair for sourcing fabrics and accessories in the functional sports space. After 10 years of success as a leading platform for outdoor apparel and activewear, accessories, and workwear fabrics, PERFORMANCE DAYS expanded further to launch a US based fair, called Functional Fabric Fair, in 2018.

What is Functional Fabric Fair?

Functional Fabric Fair was originally slated to take place biannually during the summer and fall seasons, in New York and Portland respectively. Due to an overflow of outreach requesting additional time for brand partners to network and attend the fall show, which focuses on outdoor and active apparel, Functional Fabric Fair will be returning to Portland in 2023 for their first ever Spring Edition of this best-in-class sourcing event. Functional Fabric Fair Portland’s spring show will feature innovative textiles and color trends for the Spring 2024/2025 season alongside expert-led talks with a focus on the future of sustainability in the textile industry.

When is Functional Fabric Fair Spring 2023?

Functional Fabric Fair Portland will take place on April 4th and 5th at the Oregon Convention Center located at 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97232. For verified designers, product, purchasing or material managers looking to source fabrics and accessories for outdoor, sportive performance and lifestyle apparel, the show is open free of charge. We are thrilled to announce that for this year’s Spring Portland Edition of Functional Fabric Fair, CELLIANT® will be exhibiting. Previous attendees include many world-renowned brands in the athleisure and outdoor sports space including Eddie Bauer, Carhartt, Columbia, Nike and The North Face. Past exhibitors include 37.5 Technology, LABTEX, and Everest.

Located at stand K6, exhibitors and attendees will have the opportunity to see the latest innovations in bio-responsive textiles, view samples and sit down with members of the CELLIANT team to further discuss differentiating their brand with CELLIANT’s cutting-edge infrared technology.

CELLIANT is a proprietary blend of naturally occurring minerals that capture and convert body heat into infrared energy. CELLIANT is a clinically proven, bio-responsive textile that harnesses the body’s natural energy to boost performance and maximize human potential, making it the perfect fit for exhibition at the Functional Fabric Fair.

CELLIANT is embedded in yarn or applied as a coating on fabrics and is a key ingredient in many worlds class outdoor and active apparel brands including Under Armour, DFND, Decathlon, Oxeego, and Tecnica.

What to Expect at the Functional Fabric Fair

This season’s Functional Fabric Fair is focused on outdoor and active apparel and is based on the following themes:

  • Innovation
  • Sustainability

These themes are at the forefront of what CELLIANT stands for and we are very excited to showcase this to future brand partners. Let’s break down the themes to further explain how CELLIANT is tackling these topics.

Innovation

Innovation is core to our ethos at CELLIANT. We are committed to constantly innovating new applications to CELLIANT’s core formulas. Our newest product CELLIANT® with REPREVE®, a collaboration with Unifi, Makers of REPREVE, launched in fall of 2022 and has since received two award designations, a Selection from ISPO Textrends and a Finalist slot in the Drapers Sustainable Fashion 2023 Awards. Prior award-winning innovations include pure white CELLIANT and CELLIANT Viscose, both of which were also recognized by ISPO Textrends in consecutive years.

That said, when it comes to innovation that is moving towards improving health, wellness and performance — specifically in textiles — there is nothing that gets us more excited. We feel that the opportunity to build passive benefits into textile-based performance, sleep and recovery products truly has no ceiling.

Sustainability

In a world where sustainability is at the forefront of the dialogue, we feel it is important to have a place in the conversation. Improving our sustainability and developing sustainable partnerships through our supply chain is a top priority. Examples of this can be found in our CELLIANT Viscose and CELLIANT with REPREVE partnerships.

CELLIANT Viscose is CELLIANT’s infrared wellness embedded into plant-based viscose, made from wood harvested in sustainably managed forests. We created CELLIANT Viscose in partnership with Kelheim Fibres, who are world leaders in sustainable viscose.

CELLIANT with REPREVE marries CELLIANT infrared technology with REPREVE’s rPET sustainable fibers made from recycled plastic bottles and pre-consumer waste. CELLIANT with REPREVE’s official preferred North America partner is Beverly Knits, who also operates Creating Dyeing & Finishing, LLC. The three-way partnership allows for the production of finished goods to take place within a 300-mile radius, from CELLIANT mineral processing to the finished product.
